109th Encounter “Battle of the North”

Jaffna’s big schools cricket encounter between Jaffna Central College and St. John’s College was clashed in the 109th ‘Battle of the North’ at the Central College grounds on March 5, 6 and 7 which is the oldest playing big match in Sri Lanka.

Jaffna Central was captained by a fourth year colours-man in the form of Pathinathan Nirojan. Central team participated in 11 matches and won 5 matches. They were against Henry Olcott MV Kolonnawa, Ananda MV Kottawa, Ananda Shasthralaya Matugama, Skandavarothaya College, Chunnakam and Jaffna College Vaddukoddai. Jaffna Central lost two matches against Mahanama Panadura and Wadduwa MMV.
